Florida Panhandle
👋 Hey y'all! I'm Winnie and I live in the Florida Panhandle on the beautiful Emerald Coast. I'm new to chickens... in fact they haven't even arrived yet but will be here on Thursday. I found the thread with the new member survey so here we go...

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? -Yes, brand new; my chicks will arrive this Thursday (3/10/2022)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- Right this second I have zero. When they arrive on Thursday I will have 3 (although I've read that the hatchery always sends an extra so might be 4)

(3) What breeds do you have? - I bought Rhode Island Reds because I heard they are hard for noobs like me to screw up 🤞

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? - Don't know yet but I'm looking forward to fresh eggs and having my girls eat insects from my yard.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? - I'm a backyard beekeeper (very small scale, only have 2 colonies right now). I also crochet (advanced) and quilt (novice)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. - Hmmm let's see. I'm 56 years old and it's just me and my yellow lab Pooh Bear. I work for a software company (20 years at this company) and my goal is to sell my house and buy some property where my sister and I can each build a small home on to retire. The plan is to homestead with a few chickens, goats, bees, a nice big garden and maybe... just maybe 1 dairy cow. I'm into growing and canning my own food, making my own soap and just generally trying to be as self sufficient as possible.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D - Pretty much any google search I do about chickens leads me here to this site. I finally created an account this week since my baby chicks are on their way. I'm looking forward to learning all I can so advice is always appreciated 😊
