Henry here from Panama City.
Just finished the coop in time for my 6 new chicks to move in. Coop features fully self contained automatic door with
simulated hardwood flooring as well as four nesting boxes. The chicks are a mix of Rode Island Red and Rode Island White. I was told they are called Rode Island Buff. Since this my first adventure with chickens I have a lot to learn.

Hi Henry, I'm new too - expecting our first batch of chicks in a couple of days. My husband still needs to build a coop - so you are ahead of us! I'm looking forward to learning everything I can about chickens!

Thanks. After reading many of the posts I regret that I didn't raise the coop higher. Several members pointed out the value of providing shade. Mine are going to "free range" so the protection would be an asset. Its also fully automated so I don't have to get up early to let them out or make sure I'm home to lock them in. I'm in a rural area so predators are a major concern.

Good luck your venture I know you will find it a lot of fun.
