This is a great site with a wealth of information! Thank you for allowing me to join.
It's my neighbors fault I am here on this site. He has chickens... As with all creatures the grass is always best on the other side of the fence. ( He has dogs that want chicken for dinner) So every chance they get ( his chickens) come over the fence to free range in peace away from the dogs. My neighbor comes home from work and chases his chickens to take them home. ( I have a beer on the porch and watch the chickens run him all over my yard) Well, one last hen just refused to be caught. She had got very smart on how to out think her owner. So she put in a change of address. The neighbor said, " The next time I chase her it will be with a shot gun." So I gots me a chicken...lol It was hot and dry and the rains had not started, I can not let anything suffer or go without it's essential needs met.
While on this site, I read chickens are a flock animal and do better in a group as opposed to being a singleton.. ( Now the blame shifts to Backyard chickens!)
I have a elderly couple that are dear friends who live in Beverly Hills Fl. His wife has been very ill and he fell and broke his arm. He had 6 chickens he just was not able to take care of any longer. So like the Clampet's I'm off to Beverly Hills to get the darn chickens. I now have 7 chickens.... All hens, and I must admit while it was murder building them a proper coop and chicken yard in the Florida summer heat, I have enjoyed having them.
My favorite chicken species was "Famous Recipe" ten piece box with Texas Pete hot sauce. I guess those days are long gone....
