Greetings from the North Country

Greetings fellow forum members! I am new to raising chickens and have been absorbing this forum for weeks so I decided to join! Thank you for all of the wonderful threads, they've been very helpful and I am feeling more confident in my choice to begin this venture.

I started out very small, buying 3 six week old pullets (2 female, & turns out one beautifully marked rooster) that are barred rocks. Upon advice from local folks, I then bought 2 hens that are 4 months old. One is a Wyandotte and integration went well. The other wasn't a breed choice but She kept coming up to me for petting so against my plan, I bought a leghorn hen. She is pecking my babies, nothing too serious I don't think but still a worried new Mom! When she got ugly I'd say, "NO, we don't hurt the babies"! Lmao umm don't laugh! I know, they aren't dogs or children! But, figured it couldn't hurt, right? Anyway, I welcome all advice from more experienced chicken parents!
Thanks

Hello again.
Question. I bought two hens from a local farmers who says one is a Wyandotte and the other a barred rocks. How do I tell what they really are? Wyandotte vs barred rocks look so similar and the other bird is pure white. (She fooled me! Went to buy Wyandotte, she came up wanting attention, jumped in my travel bin 3x, and after a lengthy chase of that pesky Wyandotte, I was done arguing with her!) Anyway, she was SO friendly at her coop and now the brat won't even let me touch her! So, she has been dubbed Big Bertha! . Just curious how to tell what they are, thinking they are mutts! But, the Wyandotte has taken on the Mommie responsibility of my three 7-week old pullets. Hoping she's a brooder!!

Hiya :frow Nice to meet you.
My leghorn is the BOSS. She keeps the newbies in line but she’s never vicious. She’s just like a turd in the punch bowl. Always gotta ruin their fun. She ALSO teaches them important stuff. Like where to hide from hawks. Yes she calls them and hurds them. She’s awesome a BRAT but still awesome. Good luck with all your chickens. :welcome
