I have been lurking on the forums/ FAQS the past few weeks learning much after a google search sent me in this direction. Thanks for all the great info and supportive responses!

Currently unemployed I have FINALLY had time to resume gardening after a decades hiatus and to take the plunge into owning chickens as I move towards a long term goal of improved food system sustainability.

With assistance from wonderful family with more carpentry experience than I, the coop is constructed and should be secure and ready to house 30 chicks by this weekend.
Hopefully this 8x8x8 foot space will keep them happy whilst we finish fencing the surrounding run.
They have been brooding in a livestock trough in my room since 04/24/20 and will Certainly appreciate additional space as they establish pecking order and try out new wings and the acrobatics associated. I will certainly appreciate a little more quiet at night!

anyways, that’s a little about me and my flock.
Hope all is well with you and yours

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Sadly, 8x8 is too small for 30 chickens.
I was thinking it might be. However I wasn’t anticipating 30 chicks.
I had ordered 25 Buff Orpington straight run Expecting some loss.
What I got was extra 8 surprise birds of which we lost 3 in the first 48 hours. The plan is to harvest most of the roosters when they are big enough for the freezer. As soon as I have the fence finished ( run is 20x30ft with coop inside) I’m thinking that the next project should be a chicken tractor/ moveable run to allow extra room/ field trips.

any feedback appreciated:)
