Hello! We are a small hobby farm in Western NC and here to learn as much about our lovely feathered friends as I can. So here is our introduction:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are fairly new but I (James) have been around chickens for a few years. We got our birds in early August.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 13 birds.

(3) What breeds do you have? We have two Cream Legbars, a silkie, a Delaware, a Buff Orpington, an Australorpe, a speckled Sussex, three splash Marans, one silver laced Wyandotte pullets and two silver laced wyndotte cockerels

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? In seeking as much knowledge about best practices and behavior, I (James) wandered onto the site :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We like to hike and are old emergency management/search and rescue folks. Nowadays we are blossoming homesteaders.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a newly wed couple (one year and change and going strong) we have a pair of cats. She's a housewife and I'm in sales. Most importantly we love our chickens!

Here's a quick link to where to post your new thread with your intro info: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/new-member-introductions.44/create-thread

Glad you're here Virginia and James!

If you haven't yet, please make your chickens a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it! :D

G’Day from down under James & Virginia :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

As Justin has hinted, if you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes for a bright and cheerful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
