Was hoping for advice for my 4 silly girls who roost in the open at night when it is cold or raining (like now) rather than going under shelter. There is lots of shelter provided yet they seem to want to roost in the open. We had a mountain lion attempt to get them by shredding the heavy wire we provided so he/she was unsuccessful but had the girls been in their nesting area, they would have been less exposed. Do we need to put a frame and cover around their roosts? Any advice is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Can you post a picture of your setup?

If you are dealing with mountain lions, I suggest you get the flock confined behind several strands of hot wires.

We were thinking of that or barb wire. We bought the very tight fencing so, although it was shredded, it did not break through. Husband put another layer where it was compromised and installed a remote light to, hopefully, dissuade intruders. I will TRY to post a pic tomorrow. Company coming tonight so might be a bit iffy with the influx. Wondering if we need to put a roof over the whole coop. Then they will get their light from the sides only.
