Welcome from another new chicken lover. What kind of chicks did you buy? I'm interested to know if there are any popular local breeds in Turkey that might we might be unfamiliar with.

Actually, I don't know. :) I was thinking to send pictures of my chicks to BYC Forum to be identified. The guy that I bought them was selling three breeds. He called two of the breeds "eggers" and the other one "meat chicken". They are 4 days old know, I don't know if it's too early for identification.

I also don't know their gender. I know that it's hard to tell their gender before 7-8 weeks.

So they will be a total suprise for me :) which I like.

I saw on BYC that many people are trying to avoid roosters. Is it only because there are laws against it or are there other reasons that I'm not aware of as a freshman? (Maybe this thread is not the right place to ask, if so please warn me)
 
My husband had to go to Turkey for his job in 1989. We loved it, especially the friendly people and the food. Our son was just two years old and had very light blond hair, which made him stand out so everyone was so nice to all of us. It's funny that our son learned his numbers and colors in Turkish before he knew them in English. I miss the wonderful cay, ekmek and kofte.
 
Many cities do not allow them for noise reasons. In my case, my city allows one rooster, but I think my neighbors wouldn't care what the law allows. One rooster is one too many. The city code also says you can't have livestock or poultry that makes disturbing noises. It's a complete contradiction. I guess the only way you can have a rooster is if it is totally silent.
