Friends who raise chickens tell me its easy and rewarding. So I'd like to try it. I plan to use the eggs for baking and eating . My friend feeds marigold petals to the chickens. The yolks are a deep golden yellow. Anyone heard of this?. Anyway I plan to read the many posts here. I just want to raise a few chickens, enough for eggs for hubby and I. Our kids already flew the coop ( grin )!

Four or five hens should be plenty then. or even three, if not big egg-eaters. Read Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens. Buy it. The only book you will ever need on raising chickens! Good luck!
