My husband and I became chicken parents last year for the first time. We've had a couple of dogs at a time over the past several years and always toyed with the idea of having chickens. We took the plunge and haven't looked back since. Each of our girls have a name:
Goldie Hen the Gold Lace Wyandotte
Ann the Silver Lace Wyandotte (named for a family friend)
Lola the Americauna (named after Barry Manilow's dancer in Copacabana)
Roxanne the Rhode Island Red (named for the Police song and the "red light")
Agnes the Americauna - just not as pretty as her sister Lola

This year we added 5 more chicks:
Samantha L Jackson the Jersey Black Giant (turned out to be Samuel L Jackson - currently looking for a new home)
Extra Crispy the Novogen
Barredra Streisand the Barred Rock
Thing 1 and Thing 2 - 2 Cuckoo Marans

My husband Breck is a crazy chicken guy. He has a pink harness that he uses to walk the girls around in the yard and he'll go outside and just pick a girl up and carry her around. We have such a good time spoiling them and our two boxers protect them when we let them out of their coop to run around the yard. And let's face it - it's HILARIOUS when they just NEED to be SOMEWHERE ELSE RIGHT NOW!

We've used info on BYC often in the last year - happy to be part of the family now!

Welcome!

For some reason I went from singing Lola in my head to Roxanne in the space of a few seconds .. thanks for the song worm! Lol

Loved the pic!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. You sure both seem like crazy chicken people, so you'll fit in with this community just fine!
