Hello! I have been using this site as a reference for my chicken for the past year or so. Our friends gave us their chickens, in October will be 2 years ago. We have a Barred Rock Rooster, Rhode Island Red, Black Ostralorpe, and a Buff Orpington (we believe). Our ostralorpe is a broody gal and hourdes all the eggs. Last year she hatched 2 eggs. Barred-a-lorpe as I like to call them. One survived and is definitely a rooster. This year she hatched 10! Unfortunately we are down to 7, not bad for unexpected chicks. We are not sure of their sexes...I have an idea (but that is a different thread). Anyway, I just wanted to say hello before bombarding with pictures and questions. Thanks for being here!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join us. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle, and the best layers of all the standard, brown egg breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Greetings from just a little south of you in Central Oregon!
