Greetings,

My family and I have had chickens for just over a year now. We have one rooster (Rhode Island Red) and 5 laying hens. (2 Rhode Island Red, 2 Black Stars, 1 ISA Brown). We have since expanded our flock with 7 more chicks (3 California Whites, 2 Dominiques, 1 Turken, and 1 Rhode Island Red/ISA Brown hybrid chick hatched from our own stock and doing great). We have a great run that buts up against our vegetable garden. My 3 children ages 6, 4, and 3 love helping take care of the birds. We also have 2 dogs, saltwater and fresh water aquariums, an axolotl, tarantula, and Leopard gecko. We are also interested in adding ducks to our family.

Our other hobbies include a variety of fitness activities, hunting, and fishing.

We heard about backyard chickens after searching for answers to some hatching questions.

We decided to join after reviewing many of the posts/forums for help. The information seemed very comprehensive and the people replying to posts very knowledgeable.

My family and I are glad to be a part of this community.

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 (there's a guide on how to include your location under your avatar - including your location is very helpful). You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Hi to entire family! It's great to have you here! I LOVE hunting and fishing, so y'all are right down my alley! Ducks are awesome! You should definitely get some! Just make sure that you spend a lot of time with them!!! My sister and I let our ducks sleep in our bed with us because we thought that they were sick(which is, I know, totally gross), but anyhow, after that they thought that we were their mommies!!! They literally followed us EVERYWHERE!!! Sadly(I don't know why) my drake ended up being super mean:( He would clamp down on my fingers, shake his head, and pull. OUCH! I thought I would fix it by putting hot sauce on my hands. Well.... it turned out that he LOVED hot sauce which only made the problem worse. Lesson learned though:) I hope you know that I'm not trying to scare y'all away from ducks because I adore them!!! BYC is AMAZING!!! I hope that y'all will learn to love this place as much as the rest of us!!! And yes, the people here are VERY knowledgeable. So in conclusion....Welcome to the flock!!!
