Greetings and Salutations to my fellow backyard fowl friends! I live in CT. I have had chickens in the past but am now the new mom to a motley crew of seven chickens. My daughter received them from a well-meaning co-worker who is an animal hoarder. She was unable to keep the group of them in her condo. My daughter offered to take them in because we have a coop from years prior when we kept chickens. My new babies, originally, came from the bargain bin at a local farm supply store. I have one Red Sexed Link (Blueberry), two Rhode Island Reds (Prosciutto the rooster and his girl Pepina), one gold Sebright Bantamn(Lucy), two Booted Bantams (Tina and Louise) and one Famenne(?) Bantam (Mowgli the rooster). Mowgli is white but has copper on his neck and parts of his wings. I am also an accidental rooster mom. This group came to us young enough that we did not now what we had until they matured. I had tears in my eyes from laughing when my little Mowgli was learning to use his big boy voice. Chicken puberty had me in stitches. My other rooster is one of my Rhode Island Reds. Prosciutto is a big guy and crows just as deep as his tiny counterpart crows high pitched. I will be adding three Pekin ducks to the group shortly. I am looking forward to them coming and having them as my companions.

I don't view my chickens and ducks anyway different than my dogs, cat and parrots. I enjoy their company. I like going out to check on them on and off throughout the day. The chickens eat scratch out of my hands and jump on my legs and shoulders. I enjoy hearing my two roosters calling out in the morning. I want to hang out with my ducks and watch them swim when they are old enough (I have to get them first. We have raised wild rescue ducks but they flew back to the wild when they matured. I miss them) I am looking forward to having my group complete and all of us together.
