In the Brooder
Hi everyone!
Wanted to stop in and introduce myself to this wonderful and helpful site.
I'm brand new to being a chicken owner...although my husband grew up with them. We have both been wanting to start our own flock for well over 15 years and finally took the plunge this Spring. We started out with 6 hens and hubby was a gem and built me a coop. Of course I went from sane mom to crazy chicken lady in a few days. Already we have 13 in our coop. 12 hens and a roo. 6 are New Hampshire's. 5 Americauna's, 1 Plymouth rock and 1 Americauna rooster. I have to admit that I'm already thinking about what my next breed will be to get. It's totally addicting.
We also just recently put duck eggs in the incubator to hatch. Hubby gets to build them a place now as well. I love reading everything that's posted and can't believe how helpful many of them are for us that are new to this. I look forward to many years ahead to adding to my flock and getting to know everyone. I suppose the only things I'm concerned about are winters in Ohio and how well my girls and boy will handle things...seeing that this last years winter was brutal and hoping my roo isn't one of those horror stories I hear about. All my chickens get handled daily by myself and my 3 boys, the youngest wanting to take one or two to the fair next year.
But anyway...thanks for listening and anyone that has any general advice for a newbie feel free to share!
