Hello to you all ! I live in central MA, up near the NH border.... and have raised turkeys and chickens in the past, but now opt for a smaller flock. UNtil recently I had 3 chickens ( one more died when still a chick).. my beautiful silver lace wyendot , Stripes McGee, died this week ( 1 yr old)- I have no idea why. So, I am left with Kitty and Lucina , both astrol.'s. I am considering getting 2 more chicks- buff orphingtons- but cannot abide seeing the pecking order getting established. I have been a vegetarian and non processed food eater for 40 yrs, and really have the chickens for pets- pets who happen to lay eggs- so seeing them hurt each other tears at my heart. IF i do decide to add two more, anyone have any reliable advice for lessening the fighting ? I love my girls... almost as much as I do our 7 cats ( and 2 dogs, one turtle ...)

I can relate. I'm a big softy. Sorry, though, I have no advice. I've only owned ducks. I'm sure others will come along with some insight.
