Hi, I live in New Orlenas and have had chickens for over eight years yet I am now chickenless and looking to start a flock. I’ve had RI Reds and a breed that was a mix but never knew the name. My last chicken died in November and it’s been too long...

Looking for chickens in the New Orleans area, either from a breeder or from a rescue sanctuary.

Not sure what breeds I would prefer but would like four. My backyard is fenced in and completely secure for hens which includes a fenced in pen and coop inside the pen. My chickens are allowed to run around the backyard all day and I put them up at night.

I’m an avid gardener and former beekeeper.

If you have any ideas of where I can get some young chickens or chicks please advise. Thanks, claudia

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Will you start culling out some of the hens and adding new ones every couple of years? That will keep you in both chickens and eggs

I note you mention you are in New Orleans but if you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
