(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
About 8 years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(3) What breeds do you have?
White Plymouth Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Cochin, Buff Orpington, Light Brahma
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs are nice, but mostly we just love their personalities and having them as pets. I would rather have a chicken coop in my backyard than even the nicest garden.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Writing, reading, child-rearing, classic cocktails
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have two cats and a dog, a purebred Collie. We're brooding our new chicks in the middle of our living room to socialize them and everyone is having a great time. We have 2 kids, aged 17 and 11 as of 2019. Our youngest is high-functioning autistic, which is both fun and challenging (she says what's on her mind without a filter and has the best sarcasm and makes the best jokes--when she bothers to talk). Our oldest has blessed us with helpful and respectful teenage years complete with good grades. My husband and I are both programmers; I'm working on my own startup right now.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've used BYC several times for reference on other problems and questions we've had, but this time we need really specific advice relating to our flock and are really hoping that the community can help us because the divided flock is breaking my heart.
