Hello! I probably should have stopped by here sooner, but I jumped right into the goose forum..
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to keeping fowl. I've kept and bred cockatiels, red rumped parakeets and zebra finches, and also had a severe macaw (landloard said ok, then changed his mind several months later), a goffins cockatoo (rehomed-he needed more time that we could give at the time-had him several years and a unavoidable job change left him home alone too much), a quaker parakeet (just a temp home/rehab to stop her feather plucking. She stopped plucking, grew her new feathers in, and got a new home).
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, they are considered "farm animals" in my town and are not allowed.
(3) What breeds do you have?
N/A
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching for more info on weeder geese.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Ha! I don't have time for hobbies, lol. We do enjoy photography (which we sell), as well as t-shirt design for our business (in addition to day jobs).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married to DH for 15 years, no kids. We're looking to buy a smallish farm (10-20 acres), and start a lavender farm. We are researching various methods of weed control, including weeder geese. I'm partial to this idea, since I want some geese and chickens anyway. We haven't found the property yet and I'm still trying to get an idea of if the geese will be cost effective as well as about a million other things. We've never had a farm before, I'm a generation removed from farming and DH doesn't know of any farming in his family history. We currently live in a semi-small town, but I could look either way and count 20 or so houses, we aren't rural or anywhere close to rural at this time.
