Hi everyone! We r new chicken lovers, having 6 total in our backyard. One has turned out to be a rooster (Rocket). We r loving their different personalities n enjoy watching their antics. However, we don't need a rooster for eggs n don't want to disturb our neighbors. We would love to keep him, but need to curb his crowing to the smallest amount possible. I've read activities, being content in the flock n keeping it dark in the coop can help. Anyone heard of feeding them beets?

some try having the roosters sleep in a crate that is too low for them to stand up - Roosters stand to crow stretch their head & neck upward, so this might prevent crowing for a bit.

Just a little update, Rocket (our roo) hasn't been crowing... maybe his first attempts were a sign of puberty LOL the hens n he still talk to us, but no neighbor-bothering crows (so far) :) no eggs, either, but I think our flock is only about 3 1/2 months old
