Hello everyone!
I'm Dreysander and I'm from Northern Maryland. We're currently being dumped on by snow at the moment. I figure I may as well answer the sample questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? : I'm not new to chickens, growing up my family kept chickens, ducks, pheasants and geese. It's been years since I've had birds though so I'm basically starting from scratch.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I don't have any yet! We're waiting patiently on a local farm to hatch their eggs, then we'll be getting 4 or 5 peeps.
(3) What breeds do you have? They'll be various colors of orpington and a Swedish flower hen.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I googled "Back yard chickens" and this was the first site that came up.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Well next year (2015 - 16) I'll be homeschooling my two oldest sons (7 and 5), we have a toddler too but he's not old enough obviously. I'm a dog lover, we have a grumpy old German Shepherd and a 1 year old Norwegian Elkhound. Every weekend my husband and I play tabletop games with our friends too. I suppose you could basically call me a nerd.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Like I just mentioned, I have a husband and 3 little boys. My sons will be 7 and 5 in July and my youngest will be 2 in October. We live on a 5 acre wooded property that has a little stream running through it. I'm a stay at home mom and have been ever since our oldest was born. I grew up on a hobby farm (we had cows, goats, horses and pigs) and want to get chickens to bring a little of that to my sons.
Here are some pictures of our little cardboard box brooder all ready to go!
