I hatched an assortment of supposed pure breeds and ended up with two babies that look like this:
700

What do you think? He/she is 3 weeks old.

OK thank you, the feathering is just so light compared to any photos I could find and I had posted it on one of the australorp threads and no one had seen a chick quite like it. I thought perhaps it was a breed mixup. Also someone had mentioned the beak should be black, do beak colors change that dramatically in adulthood? These are my first chickens so I am still learning. :D

Our Australorp had a light beak with a little black that is slowly turning more black, here's what ours used to look like, body is almost all black now too at 8 weeks

With those white legs, it's not a pure Australorp. Something else is in the mix. And, the down looks more yellow than white? Maybe it's my monitor.

But, white on the head and breast isn't unusual for baby Australorps...below is a photo of my rooster when he was a chick:

The pale legs you see in there are my Wyandotte mutts. The dark legs = the Australorps.

This is what my roo looks like, today:

The white one is one of the Wyandotte mutts...but, you can see that Dinner (the rooster) is totally black, now.
