Grey Silkie?

The chicken calculator will help with many crosses, but white will always be an unknown--the white could be hiding any combination of genes-- it's about like saying "If I cross by black silkie with another silkie, what would I get?" The default for recessive white is, I believe wild-type, which is a far cry from the geneset most silkies carry, but is not impossible.

None of my birds have any discoloration like you mentioned

It wouldn't be noticeable on silkie feathers, but would show on normal feathers.

Yes, the roo is contributing to grey pattern creation, but he can't do it alone--at least one of your buff hens and one of your blue/black/splash hens is also contributing.

This is a case of recessive alleles popping up. If you take either contributing bird and pair with a different bird who is homozygous for the dominant allele of both Ml and Co, the offspring will not be grey.

But when paired together, each can contribute the recessive alleles, and when they do you'll have greys.
