Greyhound with food allergies, what dogfood should I feed?

Yes I have a Boston Terrier with severe food allergies and I feed Natural Balance, but I have to get it out of town, if I get get it I feed her Taste of the Wild (Salmon). She does great on both.

Yes, Jolly is a 4 year old retired racer. When they race they are fed fresh meat and veggies. I wonder if some of the dogs off the track react bad to bagged food! I don't know, but thanks for the help!

most dogs are allergic to the preservatives not the proteins

I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild which is a grain free food

Another fan here. I feed it to my cats and my ducks think it is candy! If I am not careful, they sneak in the house and steal it!!!

I disagree. From my experience it is grains like corn and wheat that cause the most problems. Sure, there are some pets that are allergic to the chemicals, but far more react to the grains. Their bodies are NOT designed to handle them.

That's an awful food.

The first ingredient is not meat. Here's the link to the nutrition information . If you're on a tight budget, at least try switching to Purina One or something like that. California Natural has some good foods, Taste of the Wild is great, Natural Balance is great. There are lots of other options out there.

Wow and for large breed dogs, 7 - 11 cups a day? Yikes....It's all filler.....

First ingredient is corn...

Try a "novel" protein for your pup, like fish or venison or duck.....get him/her off the corn based diets. Purina isn't the best, but it's better than a lot of big box store brands. Meat (for the lamb diet anyways) is the first ingredient, not a grain.

I have a Border Collie who has 'who knows what' allergies - grass being one of them I am sure

- I have her on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream - - is strictly fish and NO grains - - the Omega 3's and 6's seem to keep her skin free of rashes and less chewing - you might give Grain-free a try!

I'm on a dog forum too with folks who have predominantly large breed dogs and a lot of them swear by fish oil for allergies - skin/ear, etc

Two of our Newfie's have skin/ear allergies so we started back on fish oil for them.

Helps their coats too

We're feeding Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream and the Bison/Venison.

Just remember that with what ever food you feed, if you are trying to avoid say corn, don't give her any dog treats, or even human treats as most have corn in the ingredient list and that will be all for nothing!!

Mine have allergies too and I feed raw now - no problems since, much cheaper, less poop, no bad doggie breath and no allergic ear infections! IMO dogs aren't made to eat grains. They are carnivores not omnivores.
