greying chickens

do rhode island reds get grey as they age? i have one who is all of a sudden losing pigmentation???

How old is it?
Is the feathers turning gray or white? A Rhode Island Red Shouldn't lighten in color..

about 2 1/2 years. the feathers are getting white and poor old gal, she doesn't lay anymore.

The sun will bleach the colour out of feathers over time.

I have an 11 yr old hen that still lays occasionally.

2 1/2 is way too young to stop laying completely.

Maybe she has a medical issue?
