Greyslyn pictured
is a gray egg laying hen. I named her Greyslyn for her gray feathers, later she started to lay gray eggs.
I hatched out 3 of her babies during the time I kept her
all her babies looked just like her.
She was an interesting mix of an ugly gray frizzle splash rooster who was always molting and looked like he was running about mating and had no pants. I did process him one day after he produced fertile eggs, but when I saw how wonderful Greyslyn was i wished I didn't process him so soon. He had Green egg gene.
Her mom had a purple pink egg gene- this is prolly the egg she came from. I think she was a splash maran mix...
I was guessing how to recreate the color of an egg that I bought at a near by farm. Just luck it came out gray.
She produced 3 chicks (not a big egg layer. Plus that is all I bothered to set, I should have set all her eggs.) One boy frizzle, 2 girl frizzles they all looked just like her. I gave away the boy, one girl fell into a big water tub and passed away from the cold, the other girl got very old and passed away.
I had given Greyslyn to a chicken friend, because i was going on a long trip and wanted someone watching her. By this time she was very old. Then this spring my friend who was watching over her said she is laying again, and wanted to know if I wanted some of her eggs. I took 4 and hatched 3. They ended up black because she had a maran rooster on her, but I plan on mating them with splash roosters to bring back the blue.
I also have to set many of their eggs in hopes of getting more that look like Greyslyn.
