Grit and feeding extras?

Hi there. Had a few questions:

1- Grit: do I need to give it and what is the right way to give it? Six chicks (6 weeks old) living in a hen house and run on grass.

2- Can I give my 6 week old chicks veggies and things like that or should I just stick to the starter food? They are getting whatever is in the run (grass, bugs, natural things).

Grit=sand, or grit purchased at a feed store, or small stone from your yard....my little chicks eat cheese,lettuce, everything their mama clucks about in the yard... I have sand available to them in the yard for grit, plus what they dig up naturally in the soil...It is all good
