Grit and Scratch

1. How do you serve grit to your chickens. Include it in the food or have a small bowl of it off to the side? IF you are to include it in their food......how much and how often?

2. Due to extreme weather my chickens will spend a large amount of time indoors. Do I throw scratch onto the floor of the chicken coop when weather does not permit the use of the run?

1. I offer grit in a clean paint tray inside their coop. And I also toss some on the floor of their coop. They also have access to a 20x20 run where they inevitably find some grit. I think you can also add it in their food. Not sure how much.

2. You can throw scratch on the floor of the coop and they will scratch and eat. You can also put some in a dish, but they will probably get it all over anyway.
