I am getting a load of sand to put around my coop and i dont want to put something that will hurt them. It is going to be either plaster sand or,,,,,,,dang it i forgot the other one. One though is a bit rougher they said. Is this the kind that the chickens will eat and be good for them... Thanks
 
I've used play sand for dust baths with young bird without problems. I'd get the finer stuff. As with anything there is always a chance one bird will gorge on it. I've got one of those. Generally sand is very good in the run both for drainage and because when you want to add food-grade DE or any kind of pest treatment, the birds do the job for you by dust-bathing when it's dry. Mine are out there as we chat...

thanks so much,,,,,,,,i really like the way the small amount of sand we already do have makes for nice clean up, so glad to hear that it will be a good thing and go out and get someore... thanks again
