So my 2.5wk barred rocks look to be big enough to eat a meal worm (which I am now "farming"). Do I need grit before feeding them a meal worm? I just purchased some grit, but it is recommended for birds past 8weeks. Considering the size of the grit I would agree with their recommendation.
Would sand work just as well or do I even need grit to feed them a meal worm?
thanks,
Scott

I would say go to your local pet store and find parakeet grit without calcium or iron and that should be fine.

i've been using tube sand, like the kind you would throw in the back of a truck during the winter. buy a 70# tube of it, they are cheap and will be more than enough for you. the stuff is great for chicks, very small, and lots of various sizes and shapes.
