Grit for Ducks and Geese

My birds get free range time, about 3 hours, every evening. Do I need to give them grit? If I do, what kind. Also, since their free range hours may be shorter in the winter (my husband won't let the be out unless I'm there to watch them) will they need more grit then?

I have mine free range also and I give them grit mostly when they are young. Then I give it once and a while. Give it a try and see. It won't hurt.
