Picked up my pullets today. 2 RIR, 2 BR, 4 BO. Buddy of mine has raised them to this point. The BO's are about 6 weeks, the others 7 weeks.
Obviously they are on starter, but do they need grit yet? My buddy hasn't been providing any. Going to keep them in the coop for a few days before letting them into the run.

Congrats on your new girls! I'd offer grit, free choice. If they're eating anything other than starter, they'll need it.

I only have starter for now. No treats as I just picked them up a hr ago.
Temps are in the 30's, for the next few nights, so I added a heat lamp.

I mix Chick Grit in with Starter feed beginning at 2 weeks (1 to 40 ratio) 10 ounces Grit to 25 pounds of feed, till 10 weeks old.
I offer Poultry Grit separately, beginning at 7 weeks old. 20181214_095809.jpg . GC

Even when not eating other foods there are benefits to offering grit from the start... the poultry feed is water soluble and doesnt require grit to break it down, but having grit in their system helps to develop the musculature regardless and can lead to better longterm outcomes
