grit question

My chickens free range, but the dirt here is the red, hard, clay type. I am afraid there is no place for them to get grit. I bought some that was just labeled bird grit. It looked to be the same size as the chick grit, but was turquoise. I asked at several feed stores if they carried chicken grit. They all keep giving me the same stuff. Is the "adult grit" the same size as the stuff that is labeled for chicks?

Ugh, I live in a rural area. Why can I not find grit?!

There is one feed store in my area that has grit available in 4 different sizes. Each comes in a 50lb bag. Size #1 is for chicks. Size #2 and #3 is for chickens. Size #4 is for turkeys. I use #2 for my pullets. I switched from chick grit to #2 grit at 12 weeks. This store is aware that most people don't need a 50lb bag of chick and so they do break up some of those bags into 10 lb bags.
