I understand why you need to provide grit for digestion, my question is how much and where do I put it? Also if the run will be sand is grit still needed?

When I posted this the search funtion was not working for me, now I see I will probably still add some grit, its only 2 bucks a bag at my feed store

If chickens have access to dirt (gravel, sand, clay, etc.) there is no need for grit. It's just an added expense you can do without.

Chickens eat a lot of dirt.

We put a little grit on a plate in the coop. They can nibble it or not. It doesn't go bad, so no need to change it. They don't use much as they are outside most of the day and pick up pebbles, etc. I expect they might eat more in winter when they might not want to go out as much. Bok.

thanks I figure it's only 2 dollars for a good size bag, I will get it and see if they want it.
