Grit substitute?

How much grit is required per chick/en? Could I substitute any small rocks or sand for store bought grit? Any pictures of grit? THANKS.

Yes, any small rocks will do, just make sure that they have nothing added that is harmful to the chickens. I buy smashed gravel and rinse it before adding to the coop.

Chicks do need pretty small rocks so broken gravel would be too big.
