Grit?

I have 1 week old chicks. I was wondering if it's ok to use regular play sand as Grit. I have put some in their Brooder and they peck and dust themselves, so i'm guessing it's ok. I have never raised chicks before so I don't want to harm them. Thanks..

I'm new at this too, but from everything I read they don't need grit at this stage unless they are eating something other than their chick crumbles. I have also read on here that sand is not the same as grit. There is chick grit available if they are eating other things.

Thanks! They seem to be enjoying it anyway, I don't think it will hurt them. At this point they get only crumbles, but I will pick up some grit at the store for later......
