Grit?

We live in Central Florida and the ground is all sand. In this type of environment do you think it will be necessary to provide grit? Is sand too fine to be functional for the chicken's gizzard?

If it isn't large enough they won't grind efficiently. It is their teeth. If they are caged and not getting treats (just commercial ration) they wouldn't need grit, as the commercial feed is all ground up. But if they eat grass, whole grains, etc., they need the grinding action.
 
beedude--where in central FL? I would love to connect with some locals to share ideas, successes and not so successes. I am in Seminole Co.
