Grit

So I got some chick grit a while back and have been mixing some of it into their food. Now my chicks are about 8 weeks old and they are outside. They've started eating grass and other things they're able to find, but I feel like now they need more grit. What is the best way to give grit to my chickens? Should I continue to mix it in with their food? Or should I put some in a separate container?

They are also scratching around in the dirt and picking up grit on their own. I wouldn't worry about giving them supplemental grit as long as they are outside.

Yes if they are on the ground they are getting their own and don’t need any more. I absolutely would not mix it with their feed. They know better than I do how much they need.

If you feel you have to give them grit, toss it on the ground. They’ll get what they need.
