What is the best way to supply my chickens grit? Throw on run floor or in a pan or mixed into feeder???

Thanks

The simplest way is this:

Simply using a large tuna can will do the trick. There's no need to mix it into their regular feed. Grown chickens will take the grit and egg shells/oyster shell on their own. They just seem to know when they need it!

Rusting? Only if you plan on having them out in the rain I guess... I have mine in the coop next to their food bin.

I might do some testing. I think most cans like these are an alloy of aluminum and tin. They might not even rust. Or paint them. Is there a paint that is safer to use with chickens?

Hi all,
I bought my "grit tray" from TSC it was $3 and it has like 6 half dollar sized holes for the chicken to get at the grit it also screws into a mason jar so it can hold more grit!
Hope this helps!

In the winter, I use a pie tin full of road gravel I pick up during the summer. In summer the flock free ranges and gets what they need on their own.
