Thanks for the tip Gritty. I take it that I don't even have to open the bottle, or do I?

Hah!!!! Are we married to the same man???? I thought I was the bleach cleaning queen I use it everywhere all day everyday since I worked as a nurse and that's what we used to clean everything (in the tiny Catholic hospital where I worked) and I detest Pine Sol.

I was just telling hubby the other day... (after he mopped the floor), that i like the smell of pine sol...

At walmart, the only place to shop around here. You have to look for it. They don't package it in the carton anymore and it's usually on a bottom shelf.
I am currently in the middle of nag session, trying to get DH to agree to putting down parquet (sp?) floors. He won't agree to putting down laminate. Tile in all the rooms except the living room. There it's carpet. Any idea how hard it is to get german shedder fur out of carpet?

Why won't he put down laminate? It's a lot more scratch resistant than parquet and doesn't require adhesive. Parquet is always thin and usually laminated oak plywood, so you can't sand and refinish. Laminate with the hard surface is easy to install and holds up really well to just about anything. Dog claws don't do anything to it. Kids even have a hard time trashing it.

We have laminate and ceramic in our house. We hate carpet because it accumulates so much dirt underneath the padding. It never really gets clean. I love it when advertisers show a baby crawling around on a freshly cleaned carpet. Yuk, put a blanket down.

By the way I like your signature line. We had a Cochin pair raise a turkey for us. It was just the three of them and every time we would go in the coop they would stand in front of the turkey protecting it. looked pretty stupid when the turkey was twice as big as them. Actually it was really cute. Of course now the turkey thinks it's a chicken and won't stay in the same pen with the turkeys.

We use our Cochins for dust mops. Just hold them by the feet. They love the attention.

I use my swiffer mop with a microfiber washcloth over it instead of creating more waste for the landfills! They're reusable and WAY better than sweeping. I usually sweep, followed by a quick run with the swiffer to get what the broom misses. Because I have a really old but very cool house with hardwood floors, spritzing the microfiber washcloth with a little orange-oil Pledge helps keep the place smelling nice, too.

When you have this many animals with dander, etc., just a swiffer alone isn't enough to keep up with the dirt/dust in the house, even if you do it daily (which I do not). It's more like something to finish off and get it "company clean".

After swiffering with the dry washcloth, I'll rinse it off, flip it over, use the other side for a quick damp-mop. Then it just goes in the wash with everything else. No junk for the landfills, and I get the ease of swiffering that I'm after. Double bonus. LOL.

Wow! Thanks for that slick idea with the microfiber washcloths! I have archaic vinyl tiles (circa. 1950) in my kitchen and it is a pain to clean. So many nooks and cranies for dirt to get stuck in The swiffer sheets don't work well, couple of swipes and their done for. I must try the microfiber washcloths.

As a complete aside, I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean the inside of my microwave. It's super fast and gets all the stuck on grease and food off. I also use a basket style coffee filter to cover lidless food that is being reheated. The coffee fitlers can be composted. Ok...sorry, done with my aside....lol!

Grits, I lived in a huge 2 story house with ALL parquet flooring. It was a nightmare. Those little pieces would pop up here and there all the time, leaving convenient ankle-busting craters. At the mere mention of water, steam, heat, cold, global warming, earthquake, etc., those suckers would leap up and fly all over the place. Got to where we couldn't watch the news anymore unless the TV was muted!

I tried a plea for painted concrete, it was a no go too.
