grocery store giving me veggie scraps

I just asked my grocery store this morning for any unsellable produce. Unfortunately they return everything to the warehouse.

we get boxes of old veggies and fruits from our grocer as well. we dump them on the compost pile and DH wacks it up with a machete. the chickens jump in there to snack, they seem to love it. I don't think they could eat too much. they usually only get the best bits and the rest sits there to be turned later.
