A lot of dogs do that. It's pretty normal. If she get diarrhea, you might have her checked for coccidia. But that would be rare. I have four huge dogs outside, and at least two of them eat poo. Then I have four tiny dogs inside. Three of them will eat the poo if they get near it outside. Gross, but normal.

Thank you all for your replies. I have tried everything to get her to stop eating it. I have tried the pills, garlic, never heard of the pineapple - may try that, but she just continues to eat. It may have something to do with her beginning. She was in a litter of pups tossed away in a trashcan. They didn't have anything to eat, so they ate the poo available. She has done it ever since.

Vet told us things to try, but it didn't work. JUST NASTY... she eats a lot of "greeny" bones. We even tried spraying her mouth with full strength Listerine as a deterrant... if we saw her eat, she got held and sprayed. Yes, she made faces and gagged from the Listerine (go figure) but it did't stop her from eating the poo... more so to get the "minty" taste out of her mouth.

As long as it won't kill her, and I keep the chicken area very clean (I only have 3 bantams... not a lot of mess), I won't worry to much.

Thanks again.

One thing will stop her eating her own poo. Buy a bag of MSG (it's a preservative) & sprinkle it on her food. I had an Italian Greyhound who was incurable til my grandmother gave me some MSG.

I'm glad you posted this. I have a 7-month old Pug that can't get enough chicken poopie. When we first started free-rangin our 30-ish chickens, he would eat so much chicken food/poo that HIS poo looked like a big chicken dookie. He is SO gross.

What type of food are you using? As someone mentioned it can be related to nutrition. My dog liked to eat my rabbits poop until I changed his diet...now he leaves it alone.
