GROUND SQUIRRELS???? warning to all BYC'ers

I hate squirrels. I literally can't plant anything because they will destroy it. I have to put chicken wire around anything I want to grow. They are not harmless little herbivores. They will kill ground nesting birds so they can eat the food in their crops. It's gruesome..

I just ordered a Squirrelinator and I pray I catch the bugger. I have plenty of desert far enough away where he/she can live to his heart's content, but not on a diet of my baby birds! It should be here in about week and I will update you guys with any results. I have been living in Phoenix for 20 years now and didn't think I'd ever have to deal with raccoons again either (moved here from back east), but lo and behold, we have them in Maricopa county! Someone spotted two of them just a mile away last week. I free range my girls, they are outside with my mare and she keeps the coyotes out, but I worry about the smaller predators, she might not think them a threat.

We have a Squirrelinator and it works well. When we first started using it we were catching 12 at a time, but now we only catch a couple. I'd like to think we were putting a dent in the squirrel population but I think they may have wisened up to it.

of course I spent the $60 and have had no sign of squirrel since, although he runs in cycles. I finally have a broody hen and the only place she felt safe was inside of a rubber tub, inside of a cabinet, but he found her out there. I have moved her into a small coop, but not the other hens are put out, agh! How do you win? I am very happy with my chickens though. :)
