Who dug these holes? Squirrel or skunk?

I think these holes were dug by squirrels, but looking for some validation. They’re a few inches deep at the most and in my front yard (not directly near any chicken coops). It’s just a lot of holes in a small space and a few are on the larger side. The biggest one is next to my women’s size 8 US boot.

I just wanted to make sure it’s not a skunk. I’ve read that they can root around and make holes like this, too. We lost a beloved chicken a couple weeks ago to a skunk and I want to be sure we don’t have a second skunk hanging around.

Is there a way to tell a squirrel-dug hole from a skunk-dug hole?

Great to know. Thanks. I don't know why they think all their dumb nuts are in my yard when they obviously planted them all in the flower garden...

Thanks. That's my Gracie. She's a little too hard of hearing and seeing to be much help with the squirrels these days, but she hates them in spirit.

I don't think so....unless maybe if you set some traps and see what you catch, but even then.
Game cam might tell the tale.

I feel a little dumb. I have a camera on my porch. I didn’t think it showed my yard but it clearly does, lol. Should have checked first.





There is Mr (or Mrs) Squirrel digging away right there. I wonder if it’s the same one that me and the rooster cornered in the run yesterday.

They’re off the hook right now. I guess it’s the time of year.
