I'm a newbie from South Florida. started with three chicks and lost all three to feral cats but I refused to give up. I have a one Rock, a Buff and a crazy Golen Sex Link. I learned my lesson and had some very generous friend build a run for me. So far so good its been 2 months and everyone is safe and happy.

Given enough space, ventilation, nutrition and hygiene, chickens are quite hardy.
After that, predators is their greatest threat. Everything loves the taste of chicken, cooked or raw.

Welcome to BYC. It's an adventure.
For every backyard chicken, there is one less miserable bird on an egg farm.

I know many of us have lost a chicken or two but when it happens especially through predators it is heart breaking.

great Idea. I have a jerry rigged run for them but they free range all day if I'm home

Thank you, glad to be on board and thankful for this site. Which bear country do you live in?
