I got chicks in March. I fed them a 40lb bag of chick starter until they were about 8 weeks old and then moved them into the coop with our full grown ladies.

I have been thinking about how small they seem and did a little googling yesterday. I totally skipped the grower feed part of their life. Is that going to stunt their growth or am I overreacting? They just immediately went to layer feed because that is what was in the coop and I forgot about grower feed.

Advice please!

I wouldn’t have them eating layer feed , less protein and calcium’s added in. I hear there’s a “multi flock”type feed for all ages . And calcium in a separate dish for the layers.

Yes, they could use more protein for sure

I switched my hens to an All Flock food, before I even had chicks. When the chicks moved into the coop at about 4 weeks, they were still on Chick Starter and separated from the hens. At about 6 weeks, I opened the little doors that would allow them to explore the coop but give them the safe space to hide. I still keep the feeder in the safe zone filled with chick feed, but they also eat from the coop feeder that has All Flock, and have been for about 2 weeks now. I’d say more than half of what they eat is All Flock, and I’m just waiting for the chick feed to run out.
