So do you mix the oyster shell in with the feed? That's what I've always done.

It think that is generally not recommended. Just have a bowl on the side and they will take what they need. Otherwise they will pick out the food and perhaps not get enough of it because they won't always eat the shell. Or if they eat the shell in place of food then they arent getting enough nutrition
