Does anyone here know any good tips, tricks, techniques, or feed supplements that could help with re-growing feathers? Our roo did quite a number on a few of our girls and we would love any help in getting their feathers back.
Well they won't regrow unless he pulled them out including the follicle. Otherwise you have to wait for a molt.
For mine, I give them the same thing I do for my regular birds: 90% or more of a complete feed, 10% treats or less. For molt time I like boiled egg yolk mashed, yogurt weekly. Fresh clean water.
If I can't smell my feed and smell its freshness, if the feed smells like cardboard, I get a new feed supplier and supplement with vitamins in the mean time.
If you have less then 8 hens then the roo could be overdoing his job on his favorites and thus causing the hens to lose the feathers on their backs. I would suggest either adding to your flock to about 10 or more hens ( & tire that roo out...lol), or putting aprons/saddles on the bare backed ones to protect them, or remove the rooster. Also if they are confined in small quarters make sure the hens have somewhere to hide to get away from the rooster. It only takes a few months for the feathers to grow back usually.....
Good luck
