I separated my rooster from his 3 hens. All 3 have chunks of feathers missing on their heads. It’s still winter here. How long will it be until they grow feathers back? I have a show in July. One he. Is especially bad with lots of feathers missing. We’ll get pictures in a bit!

Photos may be helpful.

If feathers are pulled out completely, they should begin to grow and feather back in fairly quickly, but I don't think any of us can give you a direct timeline. Every situation and bird is different.

Are the little black hairs indication of feather growth?

Also: I gave them some high protein, feather growth, food.

No, the little hairs are just that, little hairs.

The damage is not too bad and it looks to be plucked/pulled cleanly so you hopefully you will see some new pin feathers coming in soon.

Pretty birds!
