The beautiful State of Maine!
I want to grow something in the chicken pen. Its a muddy mess right now. I would like a quick growing grass or grain so that when they have to be put in there, they will have fresh greens. I would hope to keep it seeded all summer for new growth. Any suggestions? Merry

You could probably run by Home Depot and pick up some sod. They sell it by the square... I don't know how much it is per square foot.
But trust me, those chickens will pick that grass clean! They did it to my new sod!

Not only will your chickens eat the grass, they will also eat the grass seed.

If you cannot fence off an area to grow the grass, add some sand to the run. It is great for the drainage and keeps it from being so muddy.

I am going to let them free range in the yard most of the summer. This would be for the times I have to confine them, if I go away for a day or so. Right now it is so muddy in there, so I let them out on pasture. Some sod would work on one end. It would keep them busy for a while, I bet. Thanks. Merry
