I was in the coop this morning and heard the weirdest noise ( I know, it’s wonder I even heard it lol ) only to turn around and find out they were coming from my rooster, Maude. He was standing pointed towards the nesting boxes and just growling? He’s over a year old and this is the first time I’ve ever heard him do it. None of the ladies seemed to pay attention to him while he was doing it, so I don’t think it was for them.

I’m not too concerned about it, but I was just wanting some insight on what could be going on in that chicken head of his.

My hens and rooster all "growl" on occasion. Most of the time it seems that something has simply startled them or otherwise upset them in some way and they are unsure if the situation. I joke with my wife that they are saying "uuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm?????" Instead of grrrrrrrr.

One of my girls is making that sound as well - was hoping there might be some ideas on what it means / what she needs?
